Going Beyond Double Prints and Grip and Grins

Steve Mease is the Director of News and Public Information at Champlain College, a job that keeps him busy sharing all the great stories and accomplishments happening at the College through both the written word and photography

He's been taking pictures since he got his first Kodak Instamatic for Christmas when he 10 growing up in Denver. Today, he favors Pentax cameras (despite his wife's penchant for Canon and Nikon) because Pentax offers a small, light, efficient system that gets the job done - and it's a great conversation starter to be a bit different.

While he took lots of photos as a journalist at weekly and daily newspapers (back in the day of Tri-X and darkroom prints) photography lost its appeal when it became less a part of work and more drug-store double-prints of family events and cardboard boxes of photos awaiting a scrapbook.

That changed with digital technology, Photoshop, email sharing, online albums, blogs, cheap hard drive space and Facebook. The fun was back, without the expense of developing and processing prints. Now it just involved time. Lots of it.

Steve's involvement in a wide range of community events, from school theater and music with his kids, town events and local festivals also opened the door for photos opportunities and new venues.

Photography has proved an effective tool for public relations and communications in his work at United Way, Champlain Valley Exposition and now at Champlain College. A photo very often is worth a thousand words to tell a story or highlight an accomplishment.

Steve Mease Photos & PR offers special event directors someone with photojournalist's eye to capture the moment;  a PR specialist's ability to share photos and the news; a marketing expert's ability to help find new ways to promote and event, and most importantly, a photographer involved in his community, who enjoys seeing people having a good time and who is willing to stick around long enough to capture the magic of the moment and make it available quickly.

If that sounds like the kind of photographer/publicist you would like to work with on your next annual or special events in Vermont, call him at (802) 578-8029, or email steve.mease@gmail.com
